B. Fuel Type, Capacity and ullage maintained. - Standby Generators

Ultra-low sulfur Diesel

12000 Gallons full capacity

90% is 10800 Gallons.

10% Ullage (empty space above fuel that allow expansion)

c. Output Capacity (KW) - For Standby Generator

3000KW OR 3MW

4-step process of a basic combustion engine

intake, compression, power, exhaust

What are the 4 main sections of a Standby Generator? Describe the general function of each.

Alternator - converts mechanical energy from the engine into electrical energy

Engine – the “prime mover” that provides the mechanical energy (rotation) that drives the alternator, which then converts that mechanical energy into electrical energy

Radiator – cools the engine as it runs to prevent overheating

Exhaust - collect gases from the engine, remove harmful toxins from those gases

Describe the purpose of a standby generator, as it pertains to our system, to include:

The purpose of a standby generator is to provide power to our electrical system should the utility power fail.

500

Describe, using pictures or words, how a drop of fuel is converted into electrical energy.

Diesel Fuel goes to cylinder -> Combustion occurs in cylinders -> Piston moves -> Crankshaft rotates -> Alternator spins (rotor spins inside of stator) -> Magnetic field generated -> A/C electricity produced

Assuming our Generator fuel tank is at Full (90%) capacity, how long can a single generator continuously operate before running out of fuel?

24 HRS if 100% load on gen
