100

What is a gene?

A certain region of a chromosome that causes a certain protein to be made.

100

Where can chromosomes be found?

Nucleus
100

How are genes and alleles realted?

Alleles are different versions of genes.

100

What teams are in the final four of the NCAA college basketball tournament?

Duke, Houston, Florida, Auburn

200

What are chromosomes

The physical structures that contain genetic information.

200

The differences in a trait.

Variation

200

How are genes and proteins related?

Each gene gives directions to make a certain category of protein, like the myostatin protein.

200

Where does myostatin get the "stuff" to be made?

Bonus 1000 points**If you can explain how the "stuff" gets into the system and around the system**

Myostatin is a protein. We get protein from the food we eat. The food molecules are broken down and rearranged.

**Food is broken down in the the mouth-->passes to the stomach--> it is broken down further--> then goes to the small intestine and broken down further and absorbed by the villi of the small intestine--> It then goes into the bloodstream and circulates around the body. Cells take in the nutrients needed to create new stuff in the cell. **

200

In what year did we have all 4 teams that were number one seeds in the final four of the NCAA college basketball tournament?

2008

Kansas, UCLA, North Carolina and Memphis

300

What are alleles?

Different forms of genes which cause different forms of proteins.

300

The way an organism looks for a certain trait.

Phenotype

300

How are alleles and proteins related?

Alleles are different variations of a gene, which give directions to make a different variation of a protein.

For example, one allele gives directions for the typical myostatin protein (it’s complete, no holes) and a different allele gives directions for a partial myostatin protein (which has holes and gaps in it).

300

Describe the steps a cell goes through during Mitosis? **Bonus 300 if you can name the phases P-M-A-T**

The cell will grow a little bigger and make copies of everything inside. Then the cell will being to split down the middle and pull itself apart into two identical cells.

**prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.

300

How many colors are in the rainbow?

7

400

What is it called when two alleles are the same?

Homozygous

400

An organized representation (model) of biological relationships.

Pedigree

400

How are alleles and genotype related?

The alleles make the genotype.

The specific combination of the two alleles that an organism has for a certain gene is its genotype.

400

How does the protein work and effect the phenotype?

the protein either fits into the cell or does not. This determines what we will see depending on if a messages gets into a cell or not to be expressed in the phenotype.

400

What is the most-watched YouTube video of all time?

*double points!

**Baby Shark

500

What is it called when two alleles are different?

Heterozygous

500
A combination of alleles makes up an organism's what?

Genotype

500

Explain the connection between myostatin protein, cell receptor, and phenotype.

The typo of myostatin that is produced is either full or partial. If it is full it fit into the cell and send a message to stop grow muscle. If it is partial it does not fit in the cell receptor and no message is sent into the cell to tell it to stop growing.
500

Explain from beginning to end how and organism gets a genotype and how the genotype influences the phenotype for muscleculture?

Example.

1.Parents give genes to offspring.

2.Fertilization happens and creates an organism with genotype. One set from mom and the other from the dad.

3. Genotype makes certain proteins.

4.Protein is made (myostatin)

5. Protein has job interacts with cell. It fits or does not fit. So the cell either gets a message or not to stop growing muscles.

6. If its partial it does not fit and send message so we see extra big muscles.

7. If it is a full myostatin protein then it fits into the cell and message is received from cell to stop growing so we a typical muscled animal.

500

In what year was the first Apple iPhone released?

2007
