(3 answers)

1. What are the 4 types of economic systems?

2. Name one intended benefit of each.

3. Name one problem with each.

1. Traditional, Market, Mixed, Command

2. Traditional -Protects the good of the community

Market - You have freedom to buy and sell what you want.

Mixed - Attempts to balance freedom to buy & sell with protections against monopolies and the selling of harmful things

Command - Everyone can buy something for a set price.  Since the market is controlled by government, prices should be lower.

3. Traditional-Not efficient. Doesn't work well over a large economy (ex. - chickens in New York are hard to trade for lumber in California)

Market - Monopolies can arise, limiting consumer choices.  Also, certain things are sold that may be harmful without regulation (like drugs)

Mixed - You have less freedom than with a free-market economy.  Regulations can create black markets for prohibited goods (like drugs, or alcohol in the 1920s)

Command- Freedom is severely limited as the government controls what is produced, purchased, and sold.

U.S. -Religious belief in a God who bestows human beings with individual value and rights was foundational to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution

Saudi Arabia (and other muslim-countries) - The Religious belief that Islam in the only true religion has led to laws being passed that punish people for converting to other religions.
