Written Response: Three points A(2, 3), B(6, 7), and C(4, 11) form a triangle.

500

Written Response: A triangle has side lengths 7 cm, 24 cm, and 25 cm.

Prove whether this triangle is a right triangle. Show your work and explain why or why not.

Yes, this is a right triangle. (Pythagorean Theorem)

500

Written Response: Two parallel lines are cut by a transversal. One of the angles formed is 65°.

Find all the types of angles that are also 65°, name them (using angle relationships), and explain why.

(Drawing a picture/diagram is suggested)

When two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, angle relationships form. If one angle is 65°, then:

  • Vertical angles (directly across the intersection) are also 65° because they’re congruent.
  • Corresponding angles (same relative position) are 65° because parallel lines preserve corresponding angles.
  • Alternate interior angles are 65° because they’re congruent between parallel lines.
  • Alternate exterior angles are also 65° for the same reason.

→ So, four different types of angles are 65°: vertical, corresponding, alternate interior, and alternate exterior.

Teams may earn partial credit for the amount of correct terms they identify in their answer. For example, 1 correct term - 1/4 credit. 4 correct terms - 1 credit. Explanations must be clear and include vocabulary -which is correct- and appropriate for their response.
