Why is it important to be aware of non-judgmental stance?

Judgements are natural - we can't stop them, but it's important to recognize judgments as simply judgements. Not the reality of the situation or fact.

So we can start to recognize our warning signs before escalating into crisis - if we are able to recognize our warning signs we can know how to help ourselves and ask for help before crisis and potentially avoid crisis. 

Also... to help us know what to do to keep ourselves safe when we are in crisis.

Why is it important not to overuse crisis skills?

A lot of crisis skills involve distraction - they help calm us down and keep us from acting on urges. If we are constantly distracting ourselves whenever negative emotions come up, we are never confronting the problem. Overuse of distraction leads to avoidance, and the build up of difficult emotions.
