The best time to ask a teacher for help is during work time in class, or during their availability!

You can ask for help by advocating for yourself and starting off by asking a clarification question that will help you start to answer your confusion.
Why do or should students ask for help from a teacher?
Their teachers can guide them to the answer and provide them with clarity.
In 6th grade, AVID is a semester course, but in 7th and 8th grade AVID is year-long course!

How does getting help effects a students day to day life?
If a student does not get any help, this can cause them to be confused, and can later bring a loss of information, stress, and even poor grades.
When do you ever use communication in the real world?
Communication is a life-long skill that is very important to practice. Whether you are in a workplace, or talking with your friends, communication is going to always going to be in your life, and should be a skill that you always practice.
What physical things could a teacher give you if you ask for additional help?
They could give you better notes or different resources that may work better for you

What are the clubs at West?
West has many clubs that vary to everyone's interests! A student can create a club by having an idea, 3 friends, and a teacher sponsor.
How does getting help from a teacher show responsibility?
When a student asks for help from a teacher, they are advocating for themselves. Advocating is a way of showing responsibility for their own learning!
Why should you talk to teachers when you are confused?
Talking to teachers when you are confused allows you to understand what you are struggling with and strengthen your education.
Can communication help build connections with teachers and peers?
Yes! Communication is a great way for a student to get to know their teachers better!

Students might be afraid to ask for help because they either don't know how to ask for help, or don't want to communicate with their teachers.
What should a student ask for from a teacher when they are confused?
A student should ask for guiedence on any assignment that is leaving them confused!
What skills can you gain from building the habit of advocation?
From advocating, a student can learn how to communicate with others, and learn how to stand up for themselves and express their opinion.
What are some of AVID's memories?
AVID students in 7th and 8th grade get the chance to go on two field trips to different colleges within Colorado and learn about the different programs they offer!

To get the most out of a conversation with your teacher it is important to know where exactly in your thinking you are struggling.
How can asking for help/ advocating for yourself help you in the long run?
In the long run, asking for help can help students practice their communication skills which is common in real life. This can also benefit students by allowing your teacher to learn about your learning style which can help your teachers provide the best resources possible.
Why did we take AVID for 3 years?
AVID is an elective that we both found effective in our middle school life. Whether it helped with study skills, or communication, we both learned a lot, and are looking forward to learning more useful skills for middle school!
What was the transition like between each grade?
From going to 6th grade to 7th grade, It was very strange to go right into work, whereas in 6th grade we eased into the new learning enviornment. To 7th to 8th grade the transition was very similar, but we were both more used to how West functions and is organized.
