Explain the story of Haaritha looking for his son Zayd.

Zayd’s father traveled in every possible direction for years looking for Zayd. Eventually, a group from Haritha's tribe, Banu Kalb, traveled to Mecca for Hajj. They saw Zayd they immediately informed Haritha.

Haritha arrived in Mecca and knocked upon the Prophet’s door, and when the Prophet answered, Haritha said “O son of Abdullah, son of Abd al-Muttalib, son of Hashim, son of the tribal chieftain. You are the people of the Sacred Sanctuary, neighbors of the Sacred House, the Kaaʿba, and you assist those in distress. I come to you asking for my son’s return. Do us this favor and allow us to pay the ransom for him, as we will pay whatever you demand.”

Zayd replied, “I can never choose anybody over you. To me, you are like my father and mother!”

Explain the story of the people of Taif towards the Prophet and Zayd.

Zayd was the only companion to travel with the Prophet ﷺ to Ta’if, to bring Islam to the tribe of Banu Thaqif. However, their leaders belittled the Messenger’s call, rejecting Islam and the Prophet ﷺ, and promised to warn Quraysh of his plans. As the Messenger ﷺ and Zayd attempted to leave, the people of Ta’if pelted rocks and hurled insults at the blessed Prophet ﷺ. Zayd bravely protected the Messenger ﷺ as best he could by absorbing the repeated blows and even suffering a gash to his head. As the Messenger ﷺ escaped Ta’if, Angel Jibreel appeared in the sky above, and said, “Allah heard the responses of your people to you. Thus he has sent the angel of the mountains for you to command.” The angel said, “O Muhammad, if you wish, I shall bring crashing down the two surrounding mountains upon them.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “No, rather I pray that God will bring forth from their children generations who will worship God alone without idols.”  “You are as your Lord defined you,” the angel said, “gentle and merciful.”

What battle did Jafar fight in when he came back, and explain his feats of courage and power during that battle as the standard bearer.

How did the Prophet find out about his death?

The battle of Mu'tah, When carrying the standard for an army, you will certainly be the focus of the enemy’s attack. Ja’far continued to fight until his right arm was struck so badly it was cut off, so he raised the standard, high and visible, with the left. Soon, the left arm was also cut off, and with all of his might he held the standard tightly between his chest and upper arms. The blows kept coming, and Ja’far eventually fell to the ground, struck by spear and sword more than 90 times.

The Prophet was given a vision of the battle, where he saw him become a martyr.

What were Bilal's important roles towards the Prophet, ALL OF THEM.

“O Allah, who gives and takes life, is eternal and never dies, forgive my mother Fatima b. Asad, deliver her answers to her, and widen her entry for the sake of your Prophet and all prophets before me. You are the most merciful of the merciful.”

Explain how the Prophet found out how and when Zayd was martyred.

The Prophet ﷺ places Zayd (ra) in charge of the Muslim army. The Prophet says that if Zayd (ra) is martyred, then the next person to take the banner is Ja'far ibn Abi Talib (ra). And if Ja'far (ra) is martyred, then Abdullah ibn Rawaha (ra) is to take the banner (flag of the Muslims).

One of the miracles given to the Prophet ﷺ was that Allah showed him the battle in real time even though he wasn't physically there. Rasulullah stood on his mimbar facing the people of Madina, relaying to them the entire battle as he watched it live. One by one, the Prophet ﷺ watches three of the closest people to him get martyred.

Other than fighting, what was another title Jafar was given, and what was his legacy?

Ja’far was the kindest and most generous to the poor: he spent time with them, served them and cared for their needs, which earned him the title, “Father of the Poor”. In fact, Abu Hurayra - who spent much of his life in Medina in poverty - said about him, “He was the best of people after the Messenger ﷺ.”

Ja’far was the great spokesman of Islam to Africa, a fearless warrior, and a patron of the poor. He flies with two wings (al-Tayyar) in Jannah, a gift from Allah on account of his sacrifices in battle: the loss of both of his arms.

How did Bilal get his redemption from his old slaveowner? Explain the full story.

The Quraysh kept sabotaging the Muslims trade routes and they were running out of supplies and food. Umayya, Bilal’s old slave owner, was also part of the Quraysh army, though he tried to seek protection from an old friend in the Muslim army and bring him to safety. Bilal saw that Umayya was taking the easy way out, and called out to the rest of the believers. “Here is the head of evil! The leader of disbelief! I shall not rest until he perishes!” Bilal declared. Umayya let out a high-pitched scream. Bilal and his fellow soldiers finished off Umayya. It is said when Umayya was buried, the earth spit him back out repeatedly, like one might spit out a bite from a rotten apple!
