Why did so many "early river civilizations" arise around rivers?
Rivers would often overflow, allowing nutrient rich soils from the bottoms of the river, along with river water to flow over the surrounding land. This overflow of water and soil made the surrounding land fertile, or able to easily grow crops. When Neolithic peoples discovered that they could plant seeds to grow food, they realized they could set up permanent settlements and control their food supply.

Paleolithic peoples did not stay in permanent settlements. What did they do instead and why did they do it? Explain using a key term that stars with an "N".
Paleolithic peoples were nomads, meaning that they moved from place to place in search of food and clement weather. Nomadic peoples could not stay in one place for long periods of time because they did not have a steady food supply to depend upon. If game animals moved, they would have to move too. If the weather got too cold, plants would be less plentiful and the clan would have to migrate where there was more available to eat.
