Subsistence farmers grow food just for themselves and their families. They use simple tools and grow several different crops such as corn, green beans, cucumbers, etc. Commercial farmers grow crops to sell. They often use machines as well as chemicals to fertilize the soil and kill insects. They grow one crop over a large area (many acres).

Government is another part of the social structure. Every culture has a government, which makes laws and tries to bring order to human life.

Why do people who live in different places and speak different languages know some of the same words?
Their ancestors might have migrated from the same area and spoke the same language. Overtime, the language kept changing and new words developed in the new places these people had settled. Some of the languages stayed similar but there were many changes too, some words may have stayed the same.

How has technology improved industry and helped build urban areas over the years?
Growing technology created more businesses and factories which increased the country’s industry. Industries began to grow and people began to sell things for a living. People left farms to move to towns where the factories were. Some of these towns grew into big cities or urban areas.
