False! It is not recommended to spray tan over a sunburn as the peeling process will be more noticeable and the tan will look patchy and uneven. 


When booking, client is made aware of adverse risks of tanning with a sunburn. If they arrive to appointment with a sunburn, they must fill out a sunburn waiver (on waiver forever) and you must warn them of potential negative outcomes.

True or False: Our attire and appearance is a reflection of our brand. 

True.

We offer a luxury service and we establish trust with our guests by looking the part. Your appearance is a reflection of our brand and our ability to give a great tan. 

Our personal tans should be: natural looking, well maintained (not patchy) and should be a good example of the result we can give our clients. It sounds silly, but we are not allowed to look orange or have bad spray tans. Would you go to a hairstylist with chunky highlights? No!

Your attire should follow the dress code: no cleavage, no crop tops, skirts/dresses/shorts should be at least fingertip length - ideally longer. Wearing leggings and a workout top is not appropriate for work.

When in doubt, wear all black or clean denim with a black shirt. Clothes should be clean and hair and makeup are intentionally styled.

What information do we need to gather in the consultation to ensure the client has a great tan?

With a thorough consultation, you should know the following information from your client:

1. Prior spray tanning experience.

2. Can they tan naturally in the sun?

3. Did they follow preparation instructions?

4. What are their plans for the rest of the day? Can they stay fully dry (sweat free, makeup free, no getting wet, etc.) for 12 hours? Can they wear loose clothing for 12 hours (no bra, socks, underwear, or tight clothing like jeans, leggings, bike shorts)? 

6. What kind of result are they looking for?

Who is responsible for "closing" the sale?

 Both Front Desk and Technicians!

Technicians: please try to meet your client at the product shelf or at the desk to finish out the appointment and offer recommendations for your client. Example: vacation tan-  show them your favorite Supergoop! products

Front desk: Help close out the sale by reviewing aftercare cards and recapping any product recommendations the tech went over in the room.

  • Do not rush the sale. Feel free to silence any calls that come up during the checkout process so you can give full attention to the client in front of you.

Who is responsible for cleaning common areas?

Everyone! Let’s all work together to keep the front room, mixing room, break room, bathroom, and all other common spaces tidy and clean! Clean up after yourself, disinfect the table and counters regularly. Sweep and organize throughout your shift.

What is the correct order for barrier cream application?

Hands (all over), back of ankles (achilles, ankle bone, other parts of the foot as needed), elbows, knee caps.

Areas that need more come first. If you do hands, elbows, knees, feet the elbows and knees get too much and feet won't get enough lotion!

True or False: Having personal conversations at the front desk is professional?

False! Personal conversations with coworkers should be done in the break room or back area of salon (Excelsior/St. Paul).

Customer service issues should be handled with the upmost discretion. It is unprofessional and unacceptable to gossip or talk poorly of our clients.

What is the procedure to find last minute shift coverage in a non-emergency situation.

(ex: You are scheduled to work tomorrow, but your friend invited you to a last minute concert and you are looking for coverage for your shift.)

1. Text your teammates individually to cover or swap shifts, this will be the best chances of coverage.

2. Ask your teammates in the group chat.

3. Once you secure coverage, email Anna to alert her of schedule change so she an update Mangomint and When I Work.

Rainbow cross pass -  Both passes should be far enough from the skin to cover the hand completely with a dissipated spray. Too close = orange hands :(

False. The experience lasts as long as the tan does. This is why education on aftercare and recommending products is so important!

 This will ensure clients feel 100% confident walking out the door and taking care of their tan!!

If we do a great job in-store but the client leaves not knowing how to take care of the results, we have not completed the mission.

False! Please leave your personal computers in your bag and only use personal devices during break times.

Phones are permitted for work related communication. Personal cellphone use only allowed during break time. 

Down time in tanning schedule should be used for cleaning, organizing, laundry, inventory, and other daily responsibilities. 

We are in our busy season, there is not a lot of down time. While you're clocked in, we expect you to be working to ensure all tasks are complete so we can ensure a great experience for our guests and fellow team members.
