If our help is not requested, what are we authorized to do?
Parallel, obey the rules of the road, and respond to termination point in Concord with the expectation either a) assistance is needed with the stop or b) to assist with a ground search of fleeing subjects.....both of these also need your supervisor's approval

Considering the severity of the crime and minimal radio loss, cell phone call to dispatch or your Sergeant is acceptable given the circumstances

CHP - we would relinquish custody of the violator if a more serious crime is committed in a neighboring city after we terminate

You should consider what factors when deciding to initiate or continue a pursuit?
Volume of veh/ped traffic, road conditions, location, time of day, weather, capabilities of your POS police cars vs. what you're chasing, and nature of the offense or emegency
It's 0500, you're the third car in a carjacking pursuit with zero traffic and perfect roadway/weather conditions. Your siren becomes disabled.
Pull off because 'the unit experiencing the failure' must terminate their involvement in the pursuit

Why should a DUI pursuit be terminated via PIT or stop sticks?
If a DUI driver is allowed to continue, the risk of the public's safety is greatly compromised. Therefore, forcibly terminating a PIT pursuit is absolutely necessary
The goal of a pursuit is....
To capture the violator without unnecessarily jeopardizing life or property
You're ordered by a boss to terminate your pursuit of a CVS theft.
Immediately shut down lights and siren, turn onto a side street ASAP, and broadcast that you have terminated and are now traveling on the side street
Only two units (absent authorization of a boss) should or shall pursue>
Shall....unless given authorization by your boss (so don't try to sneak in, it's easily found out who was involved, their speeds, locations, etc)
Pitt chases a car into Concord, asks for help (which we grant) and allow two cars to join their pursuit. The pursuit then leaves the city. When do we pull out?
AS soon as practical once it is clear the original pursuing agency has sufficient assistance from non-Concord cars
What should we not PIT?
Motorcycles, bicycles, vehicles substantially outweighing our police vehicles, lifted trucks/suvs, buses, limos, hearses, cable cars, fire trucks....use your freaking head people
