Give one example of a non-living thing in nature.

A rock, air, water, etc.

100

Sun --> Grass --> Rabbit --> Fox

What is the Producer

Grass

100

When a sunflower turns to face the sun, what is that called?

Phototropism

100

What animals pollinate? Give me two examples.

Bees and butterflies

100

Organisms at each level feed on organisms from the level below and are in turn eaten by organisms from the level above. What is this called?

A food chain

200

What is a Carnivore?

An animal that eats other animals for food.

200

Berries --> Birds --> Bobcat

What is the bird?

a. Tertiary Consumer

b. Producer

c. Decomposer

d. Primary Consumer

d. Primary Consumer

When it gets cold in winter, some animals do this to survive until spring.

Hibernate

200

Why do plants need animals?

Plants need animals for pollination and seed dispersal.

200

This living thing uses sunlight to make its own food.

A plant

300

What is a Herbivore?

An animal that eats plants for food.

300

Sun --> Plants --> Deer --> Wolf

Explain what is happening in this Food Chain.

The sun is giving enery to the plants. The plants produce energy to make it's own food and grow (photosynthesis). The Deer eats the plants. The wolf eats the deer.

300

A plant growing its roots toward water is an example of responding to this.

Water

300

Why do animals need plants?

For Food and for shelter.

Herbivores need plants for food and plants provide shelter for animals.

How does pollination and seed dispersal work?

Pollination: Animals like bees visit a flower to feed on its nectar. The pollen grains stick onto the animal's body. When the animal visists another flower, some of this pollen rubs off onto the new flower, resulting in pollination.

Seed Dispersal: Animals help plants spread their seeds. When animals eat the fruits and it passes through it's digestive system, they are excreted in a different location which allows the plant to spread and grow in new locations.

What is an Omnivore?

An animal that eats both plants and other animals for food.

400

Create a 4 level food chain. Explain what is happening in your food chain.

Correct!

400

This is what many birds do in the fall to find warmer weather and more food.

Migrate

400

Give an example of a nocturnal animal and diurnal animal. What time of day would you see that animal?

Answers will vary.

400

How are plants and animals dependent on each other in an ecosystem?

Plants provide oxygen and food for animals, while animals help disperse seeds and pollinate flowers.

500

What is the difference between Nocturnal animals and Diurnal animals?

Nocturnal animals are active at night, and sleep during the day.

Diurnal animals are active during the day, and sleep at night.

500

Create a 5 level food chain and explain what is happening then tell me how a decomposer would play a part in the food chain.

Answers will vary.

500

A deer running away from a loud noise is reacting to this kind of environmental change.

Danger

500

Why do we track animal population?

Humans track animal populations to understand if they are growing and shrinking. This will influence decisions about hunting, saving animals (animal conservation), and understanding the ecosystem.

500

If the sun disappeared, how would that affect the food chain?

All living things would eventually die because plants couldn't make food, and animals wouldn't have anything to eat.
