This is not okay. Hurting somebody's body or possessions on purpose and repeatedly can make them feel hurt and upset.

Even if you are not fond of your classmate... ignoring the behaviour or insulting your classmate can make the problem BIGGER. You can choose to be a part of the problem or a part of the solution. Which do you prefer?
One of your classmates tries to enter a group conversation that you are having with your friends. However, you and your group start to walk away and say comments such as "why are you hanging around us?"
How might this make your classmate feel? What can you do instead?
This reaction can make your classmate feel alone, disliked, and unwanted.
You can: be a leader and let them join in on the conversation or tell them that your group is having a private conversation (that is NOT about them).

Continually name-calling or insulting someone is the same as verbal bullying (even if you do not mean to be a bully).

Is emotional bullying a DIRECT or INDIRECT form of bullying?
It can be both! However, it is usually INDIRECT (uses less obvious ways of hurting someone's feeling, reputation, or relationships).
Example: leaving somebody out by walking away and talking about them behind their back.
Is cyberbullying a DIRECT or INDIRECT form of bullying?
It can be both! However, cyberbullying can be more INDIRECT because the person engaging in the bullying behaviour can remain anonymous.

It is when our emotions take over and when our limbic system feels threatened, and when our buttons are pushed and the bear awakens, it takes over the prefrontal cortex and the owl can no longer give the advice or strategies.
Eg. If someone looses in a soccer game and they start yelling and screaming, they need time to regulate their brain so they don't flip their lid again!

What can you do when you see verbal bullying happening?
Use your words and communicate, ignore and walk away, talk to a teacher/adult.
BONUS: should you engage in verbal bullying if it is happening to somebody that you don't get along with?
Can your friends be bullying you?
Your friends will sometimes have bad days, you may disagree with them, or you may have arguments with your friends. Sometimes, you and your friends may hurt each other's feelings and need some time away from each other. This is normal!
However, if you or your friend are being mean and this continues even after being asked to stop, this is NOT friendship. Friends will apologize and be open to changing.
If you are not sure if what is happening is a normal part of friendship or if bullying is happening, ask an adult for help!
Yes! You can say no and report to an adult to prevent bullying from happening.
