Subjects are taught in a blended way when they have several things in common. They are taught separately when students need to learn subject-specific skills like story writing or map reading.

This is the amount of time that we expect you to read every school night. You can read anything you want (but facebook doesn't count :) )
What is 20 minutes?

You will have 8-10 different units that each have a theme like relationships, challenge, change etc. We will explore these themes by studying events, people and groups in Canadian History, novels, short stories, comics, poetry, films and much more. You will also learn to write short and long pieces of writing like letters, reports, memoirs, journal entries, speeches etc.
What will we learn in Humanities?

Homework Hotel happens Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after school, from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. Teachers and Educational Assistants are always ready to help you in Homework Hotel.
What if I need extra help often, or if I want a quiet space to work on projects after school?

Your parents can check your marks, and look to see if you've been doing homework by using D2L. Teachers publish grades and homework completion notes for students and parents to check. Of course, there are also report cards and Parent/Student/Teacher conferences too.
How will my parents know how I'm doing in school?

Tests are not hard if you have studied. Tests check to see if you understand thing you've already done in class. Your teachers will teach you how to study.
Are tests really hard?

Assignments at the end of each unit are one of the best ways for you to show your understanding. They count for 70% of your mark in grade 7 Humanities. Teachers usually give one big assignment every 4-6 weeks.

Your parents can talk to your teachers by e-mailing them or phoning them, and they can check D2L to see what is going on in your class. They can also read the school newsletter that gets e-mailed out every month.
How can my parents find out about what's going on at school?

In Humanities you will sometimes sit and listen to your teacher while you take notes. This doesn't happen often though. Lots of critical challenges, team reading, interactive work, readers theatre and team activities will help you learn about the topics we explore.

If you need an extra challenge, teachers are ready to give you those opportunities. They won't give you more work, they will give you more challenging work on the same topic as everybody else. If you need extra help, teachers are ready for you too. Everyone is welcome here and you will get what you need.
