What is a noun?
A word that creates a descriptive phrase (anything a squirrel can do to a tree)
What is a preposition?
Every part of the sentence that goes on the main horizontal line
What are principal elements?
Always contains a subject and predicate
What is an principal/independent clause?
A verb that joins the subject to the predicate by describing or renaming the subject.
What is a linking verb?
Replaces nouns or pronouns
What is a pronoun?
A phrase containing a preposition, object of the preposition, and other modifiers
What is a prepositional phrase?
Objective elements that belong in the predicate
What are direct object, indirect object, or object compliment?
A clause that cannot stand on its own
What is a subordinate/dependent clause?
A verb that creates a verb phrase
What is a helping verb?
Describes a verb, adjective, or adverb
What is an adverb?
A helping verb together with an action or linking verb
What is a verb phrase?
A word or phrase that branches off of the main line
What are adverb, adjective, or prepositional phrase?
A word that joins two clauses
What is a conjunction?
An action verb that does not require any objective elements

Describes a noun
