What is creating hierarchy?
A typeface that has a consistent kerning distance for each letter, like a typewriter might have.
What is a monospace font?
The practice of having 2 different looking typefaces to make one stand out more than another.
What is type contrast?
The practice of adjusting the distance between individual letters to improve the text arrangement.
What is kerning?
The practice of balancing parts of composition through shapes, lines, or colors to produce a harmonious and cohesive product.

What is symmetrical balance, specifically vertical balance?
A font family with geometric shapes that do not have small traditional lines on each letter.
What is a sans serif font?
The practice of adjusting the VERTICAL space between lines of text.
What is leading?
The typeface family that is considered best for printed text.

What is symmetrical balance, specifically horizontal balance?
A font family with large lines on the end of letters in an exaggerated version of a classic font family.
What is a slab serif font?
The practice of adjusting the distance between ALL letters in a line of type. This can be used to push sentences outwards or inwards for better alignment.
What is tracking?
The font family that is best for digital text, such as on computers or small screens because it generally shows up cleaner as pixels.
What is a sans serif font?
Three examples of conflict in design.
Note: Conflict in this way is a bad thing you want to avoid in designs.
What could be (answers vary)... - Using clashing, inconsistent, or too many colors. - Using different typefaces that only have small differences. - Breaking alignment patterns. - Not having unity. - Not creating hierarchy.

What is asymmetrical balance?
A font family that features decorative type made to look like it was hand-drawn?
What is a calligraphic/script font?
The size a 12pt font should measure when printed out.
Reminder: 6 picas = 1 inch. 12 points = 1 pica.
What is 1/6 inch?
The typeface family that came first as an easier to read alternative to Blackletter (the typeface by Johannes Guttenburg based on Monk's handwriting).
