How did physical geography influence the lives of the early Greeks?

  • Land wasn’t good for farming so they had to trade

  • Easy to trade - surrounded by water, lots of islands

  • Mountains kept polises isolated, no unity

  • Had to be self-sufficient.

Why did conflict develop between the Greeks and between the Greeks and other cultures?

They had extremely different ways of life and views. Sparta and her allies were upset by how much wealth and power Athens amassed after the Delian League was formed.

They all wanted control of land and resources.
