True!

Some examples:

Magazines are often turned into newspapers or paperboard packaging.

Junk mail and office paper are processed into facial and toilet tissue.

Recycled paperboard is made into new paperboard, paper towel rolls and paper backing for roof shingles.

Cardboard boxes usually get a second life as paper bags or paperboard.

Is recycling the same as composting? Explain your answer!

Recycling is not the same as composting. Recycling involves breaking down materials to create new products, while composting involves breaking down organic waste to create soil.

BONUS!!! DOUBLE POINTS IF ANSWERED CORRECTLY!!!

Can you put things that has a recyclable symbol on it in the trash?

Surprisingly, yes! According to Patch.com, "And not everything is recyclable, even if it has a recycle symbol on it." . So, you would need to read it more carefully before you decide where to put it!

NOTE: MOST OF THE TIMES, YOU SHOULD PUT IT IN THE RECYCLING BIN!!!

400

YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS! True or False: Conserving food is already happening at Oak Hill.

True! Near the utensil dispensers, there are black bowls where you can put your untouched food!

True or False: We meet on every Day 5 during both extensions (Period 4a and 4b) in Room 206

False! Haha, tricked you! You don't want Mr. Butler to shoo you out! You should go to Mr. McGraw's Room at Room 207!

Is burning waste a part of recycling? Explain why!

False! Burning waste is usually an environmentally poor waste management option because potential resources are lost and it can cause air, land and water pollution. You should always try to reduce, reuse, recycle or recover your waste materials before disposing of them in the most appropriate way.

True or False: Everything below can be put into the trash:

Product packaging, grass clippings, furniture, bottles, food scraps, newspapers, and appliances

This is a tricky question. Most of it could go in the trash, but almost all of it really shouldn't go in the trash.  Clothing and paint (at least at home) can't go in the trash, bottles should go in recycling, and grass clippings get picked up with yard waste.  Appliances need special permission.  It depends what kind of batteries (alkaline OK, lithium and Ni-Cad not OK, button cell batteries questionable).

500

True or False: We are going to have fundraiser and food donations.

False. Unfortunatly, we are not hosting these events but we are doing other things that help make the world a better place!

500

Who are the teachers that are hosting this?

Answer: Mr. McGraw and Ms. Patel. If you have any questions, you can reach out to them!
