What is a farmworker and what do they do

A farmworker or agricultural worker is someone employed for labor in agriculture who works with plants or animals. They do harvesting, planting, cleaning, packing, loading and unloading trucks or trailers, operating machinery, sorting, potting, cutting, selecting, spraying pesticides/ fertilizers, mixing pesticides, making beds, putting plastic for the new seasons then taking out the old plastic for the new season, and etc.

What is the membership and who does it help out?

Our membership is not an official FL ID, work permit, or driver's license it is just a membership for people who don't have a way to identify themselves in FL. Requirements to get a membership is either a passport, International ID, matricula or any photo ID. It is $20 for a year. It does have its limitations so you won't have access to everything like an official FL ID but you can use it to open a bank account, register kids to schools, hospitals, clinics, court dates, and other stuff. The membership is only for FL and no other states.

What is the SB1718 law?

it was signed into law on May 10, 2023, and took effect on July 1, 2023

  1. The law prohibits counties and municipalities (city or town) from funding any entity that issues identification documents to individuals who cannot prove lawful presence in the U.S. It also invalidates out-of-state driver’s licenses issued to undocumented immigrants.

  2. Employers with more than 25 employees are required to use the federal E-Verify system to verify the employment eligibility of new hires. Employers who knowingly hire undocumented workers face penalties.

  3. Hospitals that accept Medicaid must ask patients about their immigration status upon admission or registration. Patients can decline to answer, and hospitals must report the data to the state without sharing personally identifiable information.

  4. The law imposes criminal penalties for knowingly transporting undocumented immigrants into Florida. Transporting five or more undocumented individuals can result in a second-degree felony.
