What does Tradition Two tell us?

For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority—a loving God as expressed in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.

In the chat, please briefly write what this means to you, especially for the Conference this weekend.

100

Who is the chair of this 2023 conference?

The amazing and wonderful Gemma P is the chair of the conference weekend.

100

What are the Concepts? How many are there?

"The Concepts are an interpretation of WA's world service structure... and they detail the experience and reasoning on which our operation stands today."

There are Twelve Concepts, as there are Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions. The W.S.O. and its Board also shall be guided by the spirit of the Twelve Concepts of Workaholics Anonymous (hereinafter referred to as the Concepts). These Concepts are adapted from the Twelve Concepts of Alcoholics Anonymous.

What is a delegate?

Delgates are a meeting group's representative at the General Assembly, WA's annual meeting. In our current service structure, groups and intergroups may send a delegate to the Conference. This may or may not be their GSR.

Delegates have the power to vote on issues affecting the fellowship.

200

How do I vote at the General Assembly?

While your meeting may have provided you with guidance, you may learn new information that changes your understanding of items up for vote. Vote with your heart and your HP's guidance.

200

What does Tradition Nine tell us?

“W.A., as such, ought never be organized, but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those they serve.”

200

Who is the President of Workaholics Anonymous?

We do not have a President who presides top-down over WA. We do have a chair or facilitator of our Board, who presides at meetings of the Board and the World Service Conference, Bill H.

200

What does Concept One say?

"Final responsibility and ultimate authority for W.A. world services should always reside in the collective conscience of our whole recovery program." The Conference informs the Board, and the Board is entrusted with their delegated responsibilities only. The Delegates provide checks and balances of the Trustees so that the fellowship is not jeopardized.

300

What is WSR an abbreviation for?

World Service Representative. It is an older name that we have changed to GSR.

300

What do I do at the General Assembly (aka World Service Conference)?

Listen carefully, contribute positively, vote thoughtfully.

300

What does Tradition One tell us?

WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have won a free set of recordings from this conference or any previous year.

Tradition One: Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon W.A. unity.

300

What is the WA World Service Organization?

WAWSO is a legal entity governed by the Bylaws, which, as a legal entity, the Board of Trustees must follow. The Board takes direction from the fellowship but carries the legal responsibility.

300

What does Concept Six say?

"The Conference recognizes that the chief initiative and active responsibility in most world service matters should be exercised primarily by the trustee members of the Conference acting as the Board of the W.S.O." The WSO is a legal entity and must follow state and federal laws. Fiscal responsibility includes regular audits, disclosure of the funds to the membership, supervision of the office staff, preparation of a budget. The trustees carry out the decisions of the Conference and have the final decision regarding large matters of general policy and finance.

400

What is an inverted pyramid?

The inverted pyramid is the structure used by WA that shows how information flows up and down the structure of WA. Different from the powerful elite at the top guiding the decisions for the people, the meeting groups are at the top. Your voice as a delegate informs the work of the Board. Your individual voice is important.

400

What are the responsibilities of the Conference (captial C) as an entity within the WA service structure?

  • Confirming elections to the Board of Trustees
  • Reviewing Bylaws changes – the Bylaws are being reviewed at this time
  • Actions involving basic principles: Checks and balances – the Conference (you) makes sure that actions of the Board are in integrity, and the Board must enlist the input of the Conference when making decisions regarding basic principles and policies, such as changes to the Bylaws, the Steps, the Traditions, the Concepts – the foundational elements of the program
  • Prioritizing service efforts of the board
  • Identifying and considering any other items of business which affect the recovery program as a whole and for which they feel Conference and/or Board action is needed.
400

What does Tradition Twelve tell us?

Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.

400

Who is the chair of the World Service Conference?

The chair is called the facilitator in WA, and that is currently Bill H.

400

What does Concept Ten say?

"Every service responsibility should be matched by an equal service authority, with the scope of such authority to be always well defined." Example: if WSO committees make decisions without guidance from the Board or provide prompt communication to the Board of its activities, then the Board is responsible for the legal ramifications of any breaking of the Traditions or Concepts, which protect our unity. The Traditions and Concepts work together to hold us together and sustain an organization so it’s available for work addicts.

What is the World Service Conference?

WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have won a free set of recordings from this conference or any previous year.

The World Service Conference, aka General Assembly is nested in the conference this weekend (little c). It is a spiritual entity that guides the Board. This is a real meaning of “we are not organized.” The General Service Conference is a powerful entity. It is the annual meeting of delegates where they vote. This is different than the conference (lowercase c), which is a gathering of WA members to share experience, strength, and hope.

500

What is the theme of this year's conference?

Doing Less, Being More.

Please put in the chat in a few brief words what this theme means to you.

500

What is the AA Service Manual?

The AA Service Manual is a document that all delegates should be familiar with. It contains information on the role of a GSR, the service structure, and an explanation of the concepts of service.

WA is in the process of creating its own Service Manual, based on the AA Service Manual.

500

What does Concept Nine say?

"Good service leadership... at all levels is indispensable for our future functioning and safety. Primary world service leadership, once exercised by the founders, must necessarily be assumed by the trustees." The GSRs are the base source of our leadership.
