If a burglar broke the window to enter, then the broken glass should be inside the room, but the police would likely have noticed that. However, if the glass was found outside, it means the window was broken from the inside—suggesting Cathy staged the break-in.
Additionally, while there are muddy footprints on the floor, the rest of the room is neat and organized. A real burglar would likely rummage through drawers and make a mess looking for valuables, not leave everything in perfect order.
