Why do we wear costumes on Halloween?
During the ancient Celtic pagan festival of Samhain, some people would wear disguises so the gods would think they were one of their own. Once Christianity adopted October 31 as a holiday, medieval celebrants would dress up in outfits symbolizing the souls of the dead and later costumes to personify spirits or demons. That all evolved into the costume-wearing tradition we have today for Halloween.
