A proposed answer to a question:

What is a claim?

100

The claim in this scientific argument (great job, Ramere!):

Human powered generators are the best energy source for the rescue team. Evidence card 2 supports the claim i selected. My reasoning is human powered generators will allow you to use them at anytime all you have to have is somebody to spin the crank as opposed to a solar powered generator which only works when the sun is out.

What is: Human powered generators are the best energy source for the rescue team?

A spinning fan

What is kinetic energy?

Someone tells you that a person can make their own energy.

Refute this claim with evidence and reasoning.

Claim: A person cannot make their own energy.
Evidence: People receive energy from the potential energy in food, and without eating, humans run out of energy and can't survive.
Reasoning: This is important because nothing can create its own energy. Energy can only be converted or transferred, not created or destroyed.

What is happening to the kinetic energy of the molecules in something that is heating up:
The kinetic energy is increasing (moving faster)
200

Energy is the ability to make something ________ or __________

What is move or change?

200

Name ALL of the parts of a scientific argument
(HINT: there are 4)

What is: a question, claim, evidence, and reasoning?

200

A charged battery

What is potential energy?

200

Describe the energy system in the following scenario:
A person runs on a non-motorized (no electricity) treadmill with a generator, that also acts as a charger for their phone.

The phone is being powered by the potential energy stored in the battery, which is coming from the generator that converts the kinetic energy of the person running to electric and potential energy. The person receives the energy needed to run from the potential energy stored in the food they eat.

200
True or false: All matter is made of molecules

True!

300

The difference between kinetic and potential energy

What is kinetic energy is movement energy, and potential energy is stored energy?

300

The evidence in this scientific argument (great job, Cassie!):

Human-powered generators are the best energy source for the rescue team. This is the best source for the rescue team because number one solar cells only transfer energy when the sun is shining when there's a emergency the sun might not always be shining and then what do you do if your relying on solar cells. Also human powered generators are the best because they can transfer energy at anytime as long as someone is cranking the generators.

A dead battery

Trick question!! NO energy

300

Describe the energy system in the following scenario: You plug in your chromebook into a portable battery pack

The chrome book is being powered by its battery, which is receiving potential energy transferred from the battery pack.

Where earthquakes come from:

Plates colliding

400

What a generator does:

What is: Converts kinetic energy into electrical and potential energy?
400

The reasoning in this scientific argument (great job, Hanna!):

I picked claim number 2. I picked it because if there is an emergency at night, they cant be able to use the equipment because the sun is not out at night. Since the equipment's need energy from the sun, they cant work without it.

What is: Since the equipment's need energy from the sun, they can't work without it?

400

Boiling water

What is kinetic energy?

400
An example of energy being both converted and transferred from one object to another in a system:

A correct response includes:

At least 2 objects
Energy changing from one type to another
Energy travelling from one object to another

400

The difference between convergent and divergent plates

Convergent plates move towards each other,
Divergent plates move away from each other

500

The difference between energy transfer and conversion

Transfer is energy TRAVELLING from one place to another
Conversion is energy CHANGING from one type to another

500

Create a quick scientific argument with a claim, evidence, and reasoning for the following question:

Is it important for humans to support each other?

A correct response has:

A claim (a proposed answer to the question)
Evidence (Why did you believe in your claim?)
Reasoning (How your evidence supports your claim)

500

Breakfast and lunch (WHICH YOU SHOULD ALL EAT!!)

What is potential energy?

500
Quickly design and describe a device that uses a generator to power something.

A complete answer will include a power source, a transfer of energy, a conversion of energy, and something that is powered

The 4 main systems on earth (HINT: water, earth, air, and life)

What is: the hydrosphere (water), geosphere (earth), atmosphere (air), and biosphere (life)?
