We will have staff huddle every morning at 8am at the collabin. If you do not arrive on time, you will be marked tardy. Multiple tardies will result in a conversation and write-up.

FALSE: When communicating about a camper over the walkie use camper initials and group number/name.

· Never give specifics of a medical or behavioral issue over the walkie talkie, simply ask for support

Logging your hours every day limits mistakes and ensures you submit your hours on time. Putting hours both in the binder and online makes it so we can validate your timecard.

What is the "rule of three?"

When travelling anywhere on property with campers, you must be in a group of at least 3 people. These groups can consist of: 2 counselors + 1 Camper or 1 Counselor + 2 Campers.

There is an emergency on Hale's property near Noanet landing that requires evacuation. From Powissett, where should your group evacuate to and how do they get there?

You should take your group to Camp Grossman's Parking lot via the service road. If safe and convenient, you can take trails along Powissett pond to the Camp Grossman parking lot as well.

What is an example of an excused absence?

Excused:
-college orientation
-illness or injury
-family emergencies
-Absences communicated and approved prior to the start of the summer


Unexcused:
-any absences that have not been approved by the camp director
-any absence that has not been communicated to the camp director

Approximately how long after applying should sunscreen be re-applied?

80 Minutes.

This means that after about every 2 activity blocks you should be ensuring that campers are reapplying sunscreen.

Each day you should take 30 minutes to do what?

TAKE A BREAK!

· If and when you do have a break, it can only be taken on campgrounds.

· Staff are discouraged from taking breaks near the waterfront and other activity spaces.

· Staff breaks are not times to go socialize with other peers at camp. They are NOT on break and their priorities are their camper not engaging with you. Breaks should be seen as an opportunity to rest and relax.

Two campers get in a physical fight. One of them has a bruise on their arm, the other has a cut on the face. What form do you fill out? When do you fill it out?

Anytime an serious incident occurs (camper fight, serious injury or ailment, etc) you must file an incident report. This must be done immediately following the situation.

You should always be counting your campers (during activities, transitions, free time, etc). Remember to count their faces, not just heads.

Who are CITs and what is a counselor's job when a CIT is in their group?

Counselors in Training (CITs) are 14-15-year-old campers who are ready to take on a leadership role at camp.

  • Give the CIT’s feedback throughout the day 

  • Talk to the CIT director about any questions or concerns. 

  • They need to be supervised by staff like the rest of the campers

What is challenge by choice and how might you see that in action during a day at camp?

Everyone chooses their own level of challenge and risk. At no time are participants required to participate. Everyone is encouraged to push themselves, but never to the point of panic. In addition, it is acknowledged that all participants come with different levels of experience and expertise. These differences are all appreciated. We still encourage campers to go beyond their perceived limits to achieve more.

At the waterfront, where should Counselors be? What about Head Counselors?

Counselors should be standing either on the beach (supervising those not swimming) or on the docks (watching kids in the water). Counselors also may be in the water swimming with their campers!


Head Counselors should be situated at the changing rooms, ready to record who goes in and out.

You are mandated reporters. You must inform your director immediately. Directors will follow up with the camper and determine the next course of action to ensure their safety.
