How to Perform Narc Count?
Video on Tammy
If your coworker is not answering as many call lights as you think they should, what do you do?
Ask them if they're ok and if they need help because they probably have no idea what they're doing but are afraid to ask for help because they don't want you to bully them
How can you tell if someone needs a UA?
Is it on the care plan? If yes, check the front desk fridge. If it's not in there, it likely needs to be obtained. You can always ask nursing and your coworkers to double check.
How should you respond if you don't know how to do something?
I don't know, but I will find out and get back to you. And then get back to them like you said you would ;)
Who needs to be notified?
On call. Always.
Family. Always.
HH or Hospice. Always.
Double check MAR if medication already exists and then Align existing medication. Notify on call that you did this
What do you do if your coworker is not performing the cares in the manner you think they should?
Realize that not everybody does cares the way you do. There are more than one way to skin a cat. But also, maybe they just need some TLC. Take them under your wing. They would probably appreciate some tips on how to be more efficient.
What needs to always be with a Urine sample?
Resident's face sheet and last page of the orders. These both can be found in the UA binders at the front desk by the fridge. Make copies of these and trifold them to go into the outside pocket of the biohazard bag. If the sample goes to express labs, an express labs form MUST be filled out per the example in the binders and also tucked into that pocket.
What should you do if you're asked to do something that either you don't know how to do or isn't on that person's care plan?
Do it anyway. And if you don't know how, ask. ;)
Who notifies the doctor?
The nurse. Not you
What do you do if Narc count is off?
DO NOT LEAVE THE BUILDING.
Always contact on call.
You are assigned to 2nd floor north. Is that all you're responsible for?
No. We are ALL responsible for ALL of Lincoln Court.
What items should always be on a UA label?
Resident name
Resident's DOB
Date obtained
Time obtained
Collector's initials
If you're busy and running behind, what would be a good response when you're asked to do something?
"I need to do X right now, but in about X amount of time, I can come and help you with that." Or see if one of your coworkers can help you. Communication is key
Who fills out the incident report?
The shift lead works together with the person that found the resident to fill out the IR.
How do you audit a med drawer?
Double check with MAR. If any meds are in the drawer that are not on the MAR, please remove. If there are any that don't match, please take to nursing to rectify. Please ensure that all morning meds are together and all evening meds are together etc.
If I am done with all of my tasks, is it OK if just hang out in the break room?
I would suggest only doing that if ALL of your coworker's are caught up with their cares too.
How to obtain a UA?
Grab supplies. Hat, cup, moist towelette, and biohazard bag. Label on the cup must be filled out. Always help the resident to obtain a sample to ensure that no supplies are wasted and that the sample is as non-contaminated as possible.
Are families as important as the resident?
Almost. The resident is our priority, but this is their home, and so it is their families home as well. So we should treat them thusly.
What's the difference between what occurred and the resident's statement?

What are the Medication Rights?
Right Time
Right dose
Right Medication
Right Resident
Right Route
Right DOCUMENTATION
What is the theme for this year and what does it mean?
Always Assume Positive Intent.
How can you tell what lab the sample goes to?
In the UA binder, there are notifications on specific residents if they need to go to express labs. If they do NOT have that, then they go to a different lab.
What do you do if you see something that needs to be done or you are asked to do something but that's not your job. ie, Housekeeping usually pulls trash.
We are a team and we are all in this together *cue Highschool musical song* Please help by pulling that trash. It's all our responsibility to ensure our residents are taken care of and are in clean environments.
