Is it okay to bring toys to program?  When can I play with toys?

Toys are not allowed at program unless my class is a share day.  The toys must stay in my backpack when it is not sharing time.  PE equipment like basketballs are okay.

What do you need to do before you go to the bathroom or get water? When should you go?

I show responsibility by asking an instructor and taking a buddy.  I should do those things during recess/snack and bathroom break.  If it is an emergency and I go during class, I will have to sit on the bench for 10 minutes.

Where can you play during recess time?

I can play on the big kid structure and the yard.  I show responsibility by playing anywhere an instructor can see me and not crossing the red lines.  I show compassion for others by not playing tag on the green mat.

What should you do when the bell rings?

I show responsibility by going straight to the cafeteria, putting my backpack on the backpack table, and signing myself in.

What is a Spark? How do you get one?

A Spark is a YELLOW letter sent home that tells my family about something positive that I did. I get one by showing one of the Spark Values: Responsibility, Respect, Honesty, and Compassion.

Can I go back upstairs to get homework or something left in my classroom?

I am allowed only if it is within the first 15 minutes of program to be respectful and compassionate to my teachers.  I show responsibility for my things by asking as soon as I get to program.

What happens if you see a stranger in the bathroom or the hallway?

I show responsibility by leaving the area right away with my buddy.  I show honesty by telling my instructor what I saw.

What should you do when the whistle blows?

I show responsibility by freezing and walking to line.  I should take responsibility for my needs and use the bathroom or get water before the whistle blows.

What do you do when you are finished eating?

I show respect for the cafeteria by throwing all of my trash away in the trash can. If something spills on the floor, I clean it up. I show responsibility by sitting in my seat when I am done.

What is a Spot? How do you get one?

I get a Spot if I have not been following the Spark Values. It is written in a BLUE letter sent home. I can also get a Spot if I play-fight, leave a supervised area without permission, curse, spit, or refuse to participate in activities.

When is it okay to buy a snack?

It is okay to buy a frozen fruit bar on Friday.  I need to sign in first and ask my instructor for permission to leave.  If there is a bake sale on another day, I also need to sign in first and ask my instructor for permission to leave.  If I buy things at the bake sale I can only eat one item at snack time.

Is it ok to play in the bathroom?

No.  I show responsibility and respect by not climbing on things, or using paper towels, toilet paper, or soap in inappropriate ways.

What else can you do besides play during recess?

I can go to the bathroom and get water before class. I show responsibility by going during recess, asking an instructor, and going with a buddy.

Is it okay to take two juices if you are really thirsty?

I show honesty and respect by taking just one juice and one snack to start. I put back what I don’t want on the share table. If I am still hungry after I finish my snack, I can take something from the share table and eat it then.

Do we celebrate good attendance at Healthy Start?

If I have perfect attendance for the semester I get a certificate and am entered in a raffle during a Circle Time celebration, either in December or May.

What should I do during Reading Time at the end of the day?

I should read a book from my class bin that is at my level.  I can ask my instructor if I don't know what my level is.  If I need to be timed I can ask my instructor when I start reading.

What do you do if you go in the office and no adults are there?

I show honesty by going back to my instructor immediately and telling them that no one was in the office.

Name two ways you can show respect to shared equipment during recess.

I can: 

Use it properly and bring it back when I’m done

What do you do if you are late to program?

If I am more than 15 minutes late to program I show honesty by bringing a note from my teacher.

How do Spark Bucks work?

I get a Spark Buck for everyday that I am here and haven’t gotten a Spot or a Warning letter. Mrs. Dee keeps track of all the Spark Bucks, and I choose prizes from the Student Council Spark Store each month. I don’t have to use all of my Spark Bucks, but they don’t carry over to next month.

Is it okay to bring electronics to school?

No.  I am not allowed to have any gaming systems or tablets at school.  If I have a cell phone, it needs to stay in my backpack or pocket and I need to ask permission before using it.  Any electronic device that is out during Healthy Start will be taken and given back to the adult who comes to pick me up.

Where should you wait for your buddy when they are in the bathroom?

I show compassion and responsibility by staying where I can see the bathroom door until my buddy is finished.

How do you play with others during recess?

I show respect by sharing equipment with others, including others who want to play, speaking in a respectful tone of voice, and playing fairly by the rules.

Is it okay to share your snack?

If I choose to share my snack, I make sure I have enough for everyone and show compassion by sharing with everyone in my class.

What are some of the consequences for getting a Spot?

My family is told about my behavior at the end of the day and we sit down and fill out the spot student/family section together. I have to fix whatever happened with a win-win solution. I don’t get a Spark Buck for that day.
