Potential for reduced life expectancy

Higher YLD

300

What is sanitation?

The safe disposal of human urine and faeces.

300

What is increased world trade?

This global trend can create employment and increase access to goods, but its benefits may be uneven and workers may experience unsafe conditions.

Dr. Smith (a specialist) charges $220.00 for an initial out-of-hospital consultation and the Medicare Schedule fee for this is $120.00.

Calculate the out-of-pocket expenses required.

  • Medicare Rebate:$120.00 X 85% = $102.00
  • Out-of-Pocket Expense:$220.00 (Charged) - $102.00(Rebate) = $118.00

Explain how having private health insurance could promote the physical health and wellbeing of an individual requiring a hip replacement.

Shorter wait times mean faster surgical intervention. This directly reduces prolonged pain, restores mobility, and allows the individual to return to physical tasks or exercise adequately.

500

Identify how listing a drug that assists with cardiac (heart) conditions on the PBS would improve Australia's health status.

It would help Australian's be able to afford the medication. Increased access means a prevention against heart attacks, as a result fewer people die prematurely, which lowers Australia's mortality (death) rates and increases overall life expectancy.

500

What is discrimination?

Members of a minority group experience unfair treatment when applying for jobs and accessing health services. Explain how this factor could affect both health and human development.

500

What is mass migration?

This involves large numbers of people relocating within or between countries, sometimes because of conflict, poverty or environmental change.
