Step-by-Step of a Safety Start

1. I will check to make sure both my tractor and trailer valves are pulled out.

2. Press in the clutch.

3. Place gear shifter in neutral.

4. Turn key to the on position, ABS (truck and trailer) light turns on then turns off. I will start the truck.

5. Say to Examiner: I will be listening for the air governor to cut out between 120-140PSI so that I can perform my brake check at the end of the in-cab inspection.

Snub braking 

It involves applying the brakes in short, controlled bursts rather than continuously pressing on them. This allows the brakes to cool between applications, preventing overheating. The most common way is to drop five mph below your safe speed, then release and let momentum get back up to speed.
