If a parent asks for advice on a behavior, what should you do/say?

Explain the current protocols that are in place or redirect to the BCBA. Avoid providing advice or instructions before speaking to the BCBA.

100

Define Extinction

Extinction- withholding reinforcement for a behavior

100

Define shaping behvaiors

Accepting increasingly accurate approximations until you reach the desired behavior/response

100

How far in advance should you request PTO?

2 weeks

100

Define a VR schedule

VR: Variable schedule of reinforcement. Provides reinforcement after an average number of responses, with the exact number varying unpredictably.

VR 8 (reinforcement should be provided after an AVERAGE of 8 responses)

200

When attending a school meeting, what is your role?

To relay objective information regarding what occurs during the session. Avoid providing your opinions or information/recommendations not previously discussed with the BCBA. If the BCBA is not present you can relay information to the bcba

200

Give an example of an Imitation goal vs a Listener responding goal

Imitation, "Do this" and model action

Listener Responding, "show me (actioning)"

200

Define "pairing," explain why and when we pair

A process of pairing yourself with the client to establish yourself as a reinforcer/ build rapport. This should occur the first 5-7 minutes of a session and throughout the session especially following tantrum behaviors.

200

What is the chain of communication for possible tardies

Contact the BCBA and OA if you will be tardy. Additionally, be sure to fill out the tardy form ASAP

200

Define an FR Schedule

FR: Fixed schedule of reinforcement. This should not change throughout the session.

300

When working in a school, If you notice teachers engaging in inappropriate behaviors with your client or other students what should you do?

Report it to the BCBA immediately. It is important to discuss incidents with the BCBA before talking to the parents. In many instances it is best for the BCBA to relay the information of provide direction for you.

300

Define a precursor behavior

A behavior that occurs right before the target behavior. Often used as a cue to begin antecedent strategies.

300

For every extinction procedure there must also be a__.

Functionally appropriate replacement behavior

300

What should you do if a parent reports they will be out for a day, going on a community outing, shifting session time.

Always politely redirect the parents to or confirm if they have both notified the OA (Aisha) AND the BCBA.

300

Define assent and describe how you know when assent is withdrawn

Assent occurs when a learner verbally or nonverbally agrees to participate in treatment. Pay attention to the learner’s body language, facial expressions and vocalizations.  How the learner engages with the practitioner determines whether or not s/he is providing assent.

Assent withdrawn may look like elopement, tantrums, SIB, or removal of joint attention/turning body away.

400

What should be included in parent reports at the end of the session.

Positives about the session

Give an example of or define how to build behavior momentum

Begin with demands that they are likely to respond to and slowly increase the difficulty until you reach the desired demand (high probability demands to low probability demands).

400

What are the four functions of behavior

Sensory, attention, tangible, escape

400

How much UTO is allowed if you run out of PTO and how do you find your balance.

40 Hours of UTO

On Paycom

Click time off requests

Click time off balances

Confirm with OA

400

How can you obtain a client's assent during session

Pairing for rapport

Build behavior momentum (high p low p)

500

What should you say/do if a parent instructs you to do something that is not part of the client's protocol/ intervention plan.

Reiterate the current plan, indicate you are not allowed to deviate off of the plane and/or offer to contact the bcba for clarification.

500

Define stimulus control

When a person or item produces a desired response

500

How can you tell a behavior is likely one of these functions: Attention, Escape, Tangible, Sensory

Attention- Attention is diverted elsewhere, behavior occurs, attention is provided. Behavior increases in the future when attention is diverted.

Escape- Behavior occurs after a demand is place/ aversive activity is presented AND the behavior increases when escape is provided.

Tangible- Item is out of reach, behavior occurs, access to item is given. Behavior increases in the future when attempting to obtain access to an item

Sensory- Behavior occurs when the child is alone or without social reinforcement

Behaviors can have multiple functions.

500

How do you report and document client incidents? EX (incident resulting in bruises, cuts, scratches, bumps, elopement from building, use of holds, employee injury)

On central reach navigate to the client's dashboard by clicking their name on your schedule.

Navigate to notes and forms and add new note.

Add the note "Client Incident Report" and fill out completely.

Notify BCBA, CD, and OA

The BCBA will report the incident to parents

Before the end of the session RBT or BCBA should have parents sign the incident report in CR.

500

How can you following through on demands while prioritizing assent?

Pairing for rapport

Build behavior momentum (high p low p)

Shape response or provide a break, build behavior momentum, and return to the original demand
