The indentureship system is a system in which Under the system Europeans would volunteer to work in the colonies for a period of 3-5 years under a contract. The servants’ journey to the West Indies was paid for by their contractors who would also provide food, clothing and shelter. At the end of their contract, they were free to either return home or receive a piece of land in the colonies.
