What is the difference between a clan and an Empire?
A clan is a group of people related by blood or marriage. Most societies grouped by clans do not have one central ruler but rather each clan makes their own rules. An empire is a very large area of land ruled over by one central ruler, usually referred to as the emperor. This area of land usually covers multiple continents and many different types of people.

It is believed that the black death was spread by fleas that jumped off of infected rats and killed humans. It was spread along trade routes by traveling merchants.

Describe what labor specialization is and how it leads to the growth of a city.
When a civilization has more than enough food (a surplus) they don't need as many people to be farmers. These people can start to learn to do other types of work like making or building things. The more people making and building things, the more people will be interested in being there and big populations make cities!

They used some animals, but mostly they used people (slaves) to carry what they needed. The Inca had runners that carried messages from one part of the Empire to another.

*The Inca built terraces to farm on mountains. *The nomads in the desert of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula moved from oasis to oasis to find food and water. *The feudal barons of Europe built castles on hilltops and farmed the fertile land around them. *The Aztecs created chinampas to help them farm in the swampy lans of the valley of Mexico.
