This could have helped early civilizations by allowing them to send letters to near by settlements and trade over letters and written notes instead of having a conversation in person. This helps today for the same reason. Culture Culture is very important. Culture is what differentiates different people from others. If one's culture is to not eat meat on Friday's you know they would be a Christian. If someone's culture is to not eat meat you would know they are Indian.

Permanent settlement Permanent settlements are important because if your settlement is moving around a lot you will not get used to the resources and miss some resources you have around you.
