I’m getting so tired of hearing this nonsense — “Hornet is Void.” No, she isn’t. She has never been Void, and anyone who actually pays attention to Hollow Knight’s story should know that by now. The theory gets tossed around like it’s some deep revelation, but it’s not. It’s lazy, surface-level speculation that completely ignores what Team Cherry has actually told us.
Let’s start with the obvious: Hornet is the child of the Pale King and Herrah the Beast. Herrah is one of the Three Dreamers — a living, breathing being from Deepnest, full of fierce vitality and not even remotely connected to the Abyss or the Void. The Pale King, on the other hand, did experiment with the Void to create the Vessels, but those were entirely separate entities — soulless husks born from pure Void essence. Hornet isn’t one of them. She’s described explicitly as a half-blood, born of a union, not a creation. There’s no mystery goo in her veins, no black tendrils of nothingness swirling behind her mask. She has a soul. She speaks. She feels. She’s alive.
And yet, people still try to jam her into the Void theory because she “looks similar” to the Knight. Really? That’s it? She wears a mask and wields a needle, and suddenly she’s Void? Come on. That’s like saying every bug with a white shell is secretly a god vessel. The Knight and Hornet share a father, yes, which means they share some resemblance. That’s how genetics work! It doesn’t make her some “Void princess.” It makes her royalty.
Let’s also remember how Hornet behaves. The Knight — the true Void creature — is silent, emotionless, blank. Hornet, on the other hand, burns with passion. She fights with rage, grief, and determination. She protects Hallownest not out of programming or Void instinct, but out of love and duty. She cares. Void doesn’t care. Void consumes. Hornet endures. There’s a difference so huge it’s almost insulting that people confuse them.
And don’t even start with “Silksong will prove she’s Void.” No, it won’t. Silksong is going to show what makes Hornet different — that she’s the product of two worlds colliding, the insect and the divine, not a carbon copy of her little half-sibling. She’s not a walking shadow. She’s a flame — the spark of life that the Void can never replicate.
So let’s put this ridiculous theory to rest. Hornet isn’t Void. She never was, and she never will be. She’s a creature of will, blood, and fierce spirit — everything the Void despises. You can keep your edgy fan theories and Void-tinted fan art, but stop pretending it’s canon. Hornet deserves better than to be reduced to a puddle of black slime.
