Yes. Hand turning is done by a craftsman at a lathe (a device that spins a piece of wood for quick and even results). They are even hand sanded on the lathe as well.

A piece of wood used to patch missing or damaged pieces of reclaimed or solid woods for added strength and durability. They're usually made to match as closely as possible to the rest of the piece.

What steps should customers take to maintain the look and finish on their tables? 

No excessively hot items should be placed on the surface, and no acetone based products or nail polish should be used on the surface. They can damage the finish.

What does low VOC mean? Why is it important?

VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compounds, and they are commonly found in paints, lacquers, stains, glues, sealants, and other construction products. They are not harmful to the environment, humans, or other living organisms.

Why are metal clips used in table construction?

The clips have slots in them that allow for natural movement and expansion of the wood. They also allow for checking and cracking.

What are the 7 steps of their finishing process?

1 - after hand planing, a layer of black Patina is added. 

2 - the Patina is mostly sanded off by hand, to add a distressed look and dimension from the Patina remaining in cracks and crevices. 

3+4 - two coats of sealer are applied. 

5+6 - two coats of lacquer are added that bond with the sealer to make a highly moisture resistant and durable finish. 

7 - final polishing and touching up.

What is polystone? How do you care for it?

Polystone is a porous material compounded largely of polyurethane resin mixed with a powdered stone additive. It is a cold-cast material in which no heat is used in the manufacturing process. It is easily stained, and it's important to wipe up spills promptly. Regular waxing with Carnava wax will help protect it.
