Forti Flora or Entero-Aid first! If the dog becomes lethargic, isn't E/D or starts vomiting then we recommend an appointment after that.

What do we do when a client calls looking to refill a script?

Firstly we check to see if the prescription has any refills remaining. If so, we double check the dosing is still the same while client remains on the phone.
If there are no refills, we leave a note for the prescribing veterinarian.

How long do we treat for fleas?

We recommend treating every pet in the household for 3-4 months consecutively for fleas.

The exam room has upper resp- how do we clean it?

Spray with saber 3 times, 10-15 minute intervals apart. Then give the room a very thorough clean after that.

Somebody calls looking to schedule in a first puppy/ kitten visit. How do we go about scheduling this?

Firstly we ask if they have had any previous vaccine history. If so, we try to schedule the 1st puppy/ kitten vaccine within 3-4 weeks after their breeder vaccine. If not, then we schedule at our next available appointment and place on cancellation list if necessary. We also always schedule in their 2nd and/or 3rd visits at this time.

Have it double checked immediately and have the medication and prescription put back in the safe.

My dog is very out-doorsy and loves going hiking with me in the woods. He likes to play in the water and chase porcupines. What flea/tick medication do you recommend and why?

Would recommend a chewable treatment versus a topical- topical treatments and water lovers don't usually mix unless the owner is able to guarantee to keep their dog out of the water for 72 hours after application.

ISO has parvo- how do we clean this?

BLEACH and PPE! Do not go anywhere near this room unless you have gloves, shoe covers, gowns and properly diluted bleach. Spray the room at least 3 times with the bleach solution and let completely dry between sprays. Throw out any blankets or towels used for this patient during their stay.

1) How long has this been going on?
2) Is this cat straining to urinate or not urinating at all?
3) Is this a male or female cat?
4) Is there any discoloration to the urine?

What are the 5 things we mentally check for when double checking a prescription?

1) Double check that the medication and dosing are correct.
2) Make sure that the prescription itself makes sense and the total number of tablets/capsules/mls is correct.
3)If being sent with a syringe, double check that the dosage line is appropriate.
4)We double check if this medication require any stickers.
5)Always double check the expiry date!

A client calls in the spring looking to have their nexgard spectra filled for the summer months. What are the 3 things we want to ensure before refilling?

1) Have we seen the client within the last year?
2) Have they used a heartworm preventative in the last 5 months? If not, will need a 4DX test before filling this prescription medication!
3) If both answers to the above are 'yes', we need an accurate weight on the dog before refilling.

A Chipman client calls looking to have something sent to Chipman. What is the protocol we follow?

Firstly we ensure that the items they are asking for are in stock and we set them aside with labels on them. Secondly we take payment over the phone and print off their invoice/ receipt. Thirdly we add to the bring to Chipman worklist and give a brief description of items being sent. Finally we add the clients email to the BCC line in the Chipman draft email.
