a. Remind them that they must cooperate with any reasonable requests made by housing staff members while in KU residential facilities

b. If they claim they don’t have their KUID, you can ask for their state issued ID or other form of identification

c. If they still will not cooperate, inform them that you will have to call a supervisor (graduate staff on call)

d. Call graduate staff, graduate staff may call KUPD if the residents continue to refuse to comply

When speaking with the host, they claim they should not be reported for anything because they didn’t do anything and were in their room…did this resident violate housing policy, why or why not?

Yes! Residents are responsible for hosting their guests in responsible ways, and may be held responsible for the behavior of their guests while hosting them. Also, their guest was roaming the halls unattended, which is not allowed because guests must be escorted by their host at all times.

How do you respond if you receive a noise complaint for a room and hear bottles clinking and “SHOTS” being yelled as you approach the room?

a. Knock, announce as housing

b. Introduce yourselves

c. Explain the reason you’re there (noise and suspicion of alcohol)

d. Look to see if there is any alcohol in plain sight, ask the residents if they’ve been drinking

e. Get residents to gather all alcohol in the center of the room and take a photo

f. Get KUIDs from all individuals present

g. Have residents empty the alcohol containers, put the empty containers in a trash bag, and walk with them to dispose of the bag at the nearest dumpster

h. Write an incident report
