Bound by SLPA's and COTA's scope of practice, this team member must defer diagnoses of conditions like tongue-tie, autism, or structural differences to medical professionals in those fields. Even when families share they have seen such specialists and no diagnosis was given, this professional may educate but must maintain professionalism by never contradicting the parent or the provider.
If a child can tie their shoes in the therapy room but not at home, they are struggling with this aspect of skill transfer.

Therapeutic use of self is when you as the clinician use yourself as a therapy tool. For example if you have a kiddo who is having a challenging behavior and is attempting to elope from your table you can place yourself next to them so they are unable to move from the table.
You have an assisted teletherapy session on your schedule for the afternoon. You have the teletherapy invite on GM and are able to see who the tech is you are working with. Should you communicate with the tech prior to the session? What should that communication look like?
Review the patients chart and reach out to the tech to let them know what you will be working on. If you need the tech to have materials ready give them a very specific list of what you need.
"Good morning, I have an assisted tele session with you later today for John Doe. Can you please have a variety of puzzles and blocks ready for the session?
