How is a hurricane formed?

Hurricanes in the Atlantic ocean usually start off the coast of Africa. The ocean releases warm, moist air into the atmosphere, which condenses and results in thunderstorms. When several merge together, its called a tropical disturbance. The wind will circle counter clockwise due to the Coriolis effect. Once wind speeds reach 74 mph, the storm is a tropical cyclone.
