Goals

What is... At college my goals are to make sure I stay on top of all of my schoolwork, to continue to work on my time-management skills, and to try to stay organized.

100

Proactive

What is... Being a proactive Husky to me means being able to take initiative and be aware. Actions such as setting goals, planning, and prioritizing are proactive measures that I can take to be what a UConn Husky means to me.

Emailing Professors

What is... I always knew to be respectful and informative in my emails, but I now know that including the class you are in/section/year of graduation are also important aspects to include in an email to a professor.

100

Identity

What is... Looking back on the first week reflection journal, the UCPD workshop, the brainstorm paper, and also self-reflections have helped me to truly understand my identity.

Learning Style

What is... I learned that I learn better when I genuinely try to stay attentive. Even with just a pen and paper, no phone or computer in front of me, I start to draw or doodle. A pen and paper is my style of learning that I know I retain information from the best, but reminding myself that I need to focus is an important part to that.

200

Adventerous

What is... Going outside of my comfort zone. Joining different programs and clubs, exploring the campus and its resources, and making new friends are adventerous actions that being a Husky means to me.

200

Resources on Campus

What is... The scavenger hunt activity during one of the FYE classes really opened my eyes to all of the available resources on the UConn campus that I can use, such as the W-Center, where the communities are, and the Student Rec.

200

Community

What is... Whether a small or large community, I can find support in either one. Especially in college, a community can be valuable to allow me to form study groups, expand my perpectives, form new connections, and feel sociable.

Stress Responses

What is... I learned that excercises such as going on walks or to the gym help me destress. Other actions I take to destress are doing things that I enjoy, determining if I can avoid what stressed me out in the first place, and spending time with close friends.

300

Resourceful

What is... There are so many resources on campus that I am able to go to. In the 5 weeks I have been here, I have already been exposed to plenty. Taking advantage of these opportunities is one way that I think will help me reach my academic potential at UConn.

300

Envision

What is... Envisioning different versions myself in the future through the coloring activity, which made me think of the actions I would need to take to achieve those. I can use this action of envisioning to see how I would want myself to be as a student at UConn in the future.

300

Autonomy

What is... I feel that after the alligator story and many other situations where I would have to consider my beliefs in addition to others encouraged me to be more receptive, and it broadened my perspectives on multiple scenarios.

Motivations

What is... Learning that feeling accomplished of myself in the future, reducing workload/stress later, giving myself freetime, (and especially sweet treats!) are all motivations for me.

400

Competitive

What is... I consider myself a competitive person not only against other people, but also myself. Being a Husky to me means challenging myself and "competing" with myself to be the best version of me I can be.

400

Importance of Syllabi

What is... I learned that the syllabi can hold so much information such as the professors office hours, their contact information, topics learned in class, and grading guidelines.

400

Curiosity

What is... Exploring this theme of FYE was extremely valuable to me because I believe that curiousity is fundamental in personal development. Curiousity enables me to have determination in a topic I want to pursue, solve problems that I might not understand, but also to form connections.

Self-Care Needs

What is... Dedicating time for myself to do things I enjoy such as watching a show, doing my nails or hair, or going to the gym. I also learned that I need to dedicate time for things I need such as drinking enough water, eating, and socializing.
500

Tenacious

What is... Especially with a lot of rain, I feel no desire to do my work. I feel this way with other factors as well, but I realize that tenacity and resilience are prime characteristics in UConn students that enable them, and me, to push past mental and physical obstables.

500

Self-Reflection

What is... I learned that self-reflection is a valuable tool to help me become a better version of myself, and to also better understand myself. If I look back and do not necessarily like how I acted in a certain situation, I can self-reflect to decide how I would like to be to create a me that I am more proud of.

500

Reflection

What is... The FS program introduced me up to the college setting with courses and staying in a dorm. I feel prepared to actually begin college at UConn with some experience behind me that will set me up for success in the future!
