throw up
1. 猛地举起（或抬起）；扬起：Each passing car threw up a cloud of dust. 每辆驶过的汽车都扬起一阵灰土。
2. 放弃, 辞去；错过：He threw up a good job to devote his whole time to art. 他辞去了很好的职位，以便献身于艺术。
3. 匆匆建造：A wall between two Berlins was thrown up during the night of August 12-13, 1961．东西柏林间的墙是在1961年8月12-13日夜里匆匆建造起来的。
4. 产生；出(人才): Our country has thrown up many good writers and poets. 我国出了许多优秀作家和诗人。

hang around/about

4. 忽视: I managed to pass off his insult.
5. 回避；把注意力从……处移开: He passed off the difficult question.

throw off
1. (从···)扔开：The duck shakes its back to throw the water off. 鸭子一抖背部把水抖掉。
