Miss Bush has 39 cookies on her plate. Mrs. Sneed has 84 cookies on her plate. How many fewer cookies does Miss Bush have than Mrs. Sneed?

What type of story problem is this? What tool helps me best represent the story and why?

This is a compare problem. I know because we know that Miss Bush has 39 cookies and Mrs. Sneed has 84 cookies. We can use a tape diagram to help us represent because it visually shows us who has more, who has less, and what the difference is.
