Something that is a push or a pull
What is gravity?
What are two ways Earth moves?
Rotation/ spin
Revolution/ orbit
Why don't we see days in the day time?
The sun appears brighter than all the other stars because it is close to us, so other stars brightness do not overpower the sun
Why is it important to perform investigations?
Investigations help scientists find out more about how things work
what is an astronomer
an astronomer is a scientist who studies stars and other objects in space
True or False: the size of an object and the amount of mass it has effects how strong gravitational force is.
True
What pattern is caused by Earth's rotation about its axis?
Day and Night
Why do we see different starts during the year?
As Earth orbits the sun, its position in space changes therefore causing different stars to be seen through the year
Why is it important to collect data?
Data gives us measurements, observations, and information about the questions we investigate
how is a model important in science?
models help us to understand the world around us
How would someone demonstrate or show how gravity effects objects on Earth?
Drop objects with different masses to show how they fall down to Earth.
How do we experience 4 seasons?
Earth's tilt causes certain parts of Earth to face closer towards that sun than other times of the year
Not all places experience seasons because they do not fall near the tilt
What are two things that effect how bright a star looks in space?
distance and size
what is an independent variable?
an independent variable is something we as scientists change in an experiment
what do archeologists do for a living?
the study people from the past and their lifestyles
A student says gravity does not exist because when objects are in space they float around. Do you agree or disagree. Why?
The student is partially correct. Gravity does exist even in space, but objects float around until they get close enough to a large mass and then gravitate towards it.
What is the difference between a revolution and a rotation?
Revolution is one year, Earth goes around the sun
Rotation happens daily, Earth spins around in space
If stars are big why do they look so small when we see them?
The stars a huge, but because they are light years away, they appear smaller than they actually are.
what is a dependent variable
a dependent variable is something that is being recorded during an investigation. we collect data on the dependent variable
How does mass affect gravity?
More mass means stronger gravitational pull
Less mass means wear gravitational pull.
Why do some planets take a longer time to orbit the sun?
As planets get further from the sun and further into space, their orbit takes longer. When planets are close, they can get around the sun quicker.
If a star is visible during summer nights, why does it make sense to not be able to see it during winter nights?
Winter and Summer are two different season that happen at different points of the year, so the same starts won't be visible because Earth is in a different place in space orbiting the sun
how do we make observations in science
we ask ourselves what are the properties of objects?
