SUGAR ACT: an act aimed at preventing the smuggling of molasses into the colonies by reducing the tax and enforcing it more strictly.
CURRENCY ACT: an act that forces colonists to use British money, attempting to target the smuggling and illegal selling of goods.
STAMP ACT: an act requiring an official seal of England to be attached to formal paper documents in the colonies, particularly upsetting to American lawyers, journalists, publishers, and others.

Dred Scott lives in Wisconsin Territory w his enslavers as a free man
- his master returns to Missouri and Dred Scott sues for his freedom under the "once free always free" clause in Missouri laws.
- The case goes on for 10 years and the supreme court rules that because african americans are only referred to in reference to slavery in the Constitution, Dred Scott and all black people, free or enslaved, are not and have never been citizens of the US and therefore are not entitled to rights and privileges such as suing for freedom.
- The impact is that people in the North, where there are lots of free blacks are outraged and in the South they take this as an encouragement of slavery, having the supreme court on "their" side.
