What qualifies as service? (give 2 examples)

What counts:

-working at a non profit orginization

-campus based service provider (single stop, access, etc)

-A public sector agency such as a school, government office, or park

-A hospital, public health/non-profit health clinic, or a nursing home

Who are the two signatures needed in order to successfully submit your service learning contract?

-Agency Supervisor

-Professor Signature

How do you navigate to the changemaker hub?

What DOES NOT qualify as service (name 3 examples)

-Donating money, or walking in a  5K

-Activities for internal benefit (club recruitment, etc)

-Converting someone to a religion

-working with a private orginization 

-Any type of paid work

-Orientation/Prep Work (a reasonable number of hours for an orientation or planning, should not exceed the actual amount of time served)

-Fundraising (must involve increasing awareness and focus on an identifiable community need, and cannot be for internal benefit)

Name one of the four types of qualifying service and what it encompasses.

Direct: Direct service is working directly for or with people who benefit from your service. (giving back to the homeless, etc)

Indirect: Service without being directly involved with those being served. (fundraising, designing flyers)

Research: Gathering and presenting information on an issue that directly benefits the community. (Working in a lab to study effects of climate change)

Advocacy:Attempting to cause political or social action by influencing the government or community leaders. (Lobby on behalf of a community issue, conduct information campaigns)

Name 2 requirements for your selected agency.

-My agency is a 501(c) 3, non-profit organization.

-This student is not an employee of my agency/organization.

-The service this student will provide will directly benefit our community.

-This experience will help the student better understand the needs of our community and how he/she can help make a difference.

-The service this student will provide will contribute to his/her personal and professional development (i.e., the service will be meaningful and challenging).

-My agency will provide a safe working environment, orientation and on-going support to the student.
