Solve for the variable:
c-6=18
24
What is the difference between problems that ask you to simplify versus problems that ask you to solve?
Simplifying means to combine like terms by distributing and following PEMDAS-- you simplify expressions by making them smaller and doing all possible operations.
Solving: you solve equations by doing inverse operations on both sides to get a variable by itself.
Define the phrase, "like terms."
Terms that contain the same variable which is raised to the same power. (In algebraic like terms, only the numerical coefficients can vary). Constant terms are also like terms.
Solve for the variable: 4s=48
s=12
Simplify the expression:
4-(a+3b)+12-4a
-3b+16-5a
-6+ (-9)=
-15
Solve for the variable: 4a-7=21
a=7
Simplify the Expression
-4(6-9x+w)-4w+11
-13+36x-8w
Define the term, "coefficient."
A numerical or constant quantity placed before and multiplying the variable in an algebraic expression (e.g. 5 in 5x).
Solve for the variable:
1/6 (18x + 24) = 12 - 4 (x-4)
What is: -8/7
-4(10-6x+w)-4w+3
-37+24x-8w
Identify the like terms, coefficients, and variables in the following expression:
3a+4-11+17a-b+6-13b
Coefficients: 3, 17, -1, -13
Variables: a, b
Like Terms: 3a - 17a; -b - 13b; 4 - 11 + 6
Write the number of solutions for each problem:
(1) 3y+9=-12y+39
(2) 13k-5k+14=8k+7+9-2
(3) 8x+19=8x-2
problem 1 has 1 solution, problem 2 has infinite solutions, and problem 3 has no solutions.
-1/4(8x+16)-6x
-8x-4
