“Bury me in the ocean with my ancestors that jumped from ships because they knew death was better than bondage.”

Erik’s quote reflects the different experience he had growing up in comparison to T’Challa. T’Challa grew up in a royal family with access to advanced technology and therefore never really experienced struggle. T’Challa grew up in California’s ghetto–being of low income and an African-American, this presented a set of challenges based on his race and wealth. Erik’s willingness to kill himself shows that he would rather die from the struggle it took to get the throne of Wakanda than to die at the hand of someone who didn’t use their power to better the lives of ALL Africans.
