Skills is not actually a class. It is a service and support provided for students who have IEPs.

Skills is an actual class where you receive actual grades and earn actual credits.
FALSE: 4th quarter is most important as it is the only quarter where teachers can give the grade that is earned such as a 47, or 24 or 11 if that is the grade earned. In quarters 1, 2, 3, students who have grades lower than a 50 are still given a 50 as that is the lowest grade you can put.

FALSE: Skills is a recommendation that is determined at your annual CSE review. If you had your meeting already, this has already been discussed and you can find out from Mrs. K what was recommended. If you didn't have your meeting yet, you can advocate for your wishes to have it removed or changed at the meeting time.
How is your final average calculated for math, science, social studies and ELA? In other words, what grades are averaged together to get the final average grade to determine if you passed or not?
The final average for your core classes is based on adding up quarter 1, quarter 2, quarter 3, quarter 4 and the final exam grade. Then you divide by 5. That is your final average!

FALSE: You will be scheduled for a block of time for the classes you need to take that is usually 1.5--2 hours each time slot. So for example, you could go from 8:30--10 for Math and 10---11:30 for English.

FALSE: IEP means individualized educational plan. This means that every year we have an annual review meeting to discuss what is best for YOU. Sometimes it is skills, sometimes it is something called resource room, sometimes it is co-teach classes. It depends on the student.
Is there a final exam grade for skills?
A. Yes, of course.
B. No. So, your grade is only based on the 4 quarters.
C. Of course not---you don't even get any grades or credits.
B---No. This means that your final average is based on the grades from each of the 4 quarters.
TRUE OR FALSE: If you don't go to summer school for a failed class, then you have to take it next year.
TRUE: So if you fail English 9, and don't take it or pass it in summer school---you will take English 9 again next year.
