What is nursemaids?

How do you prevent nursemaids in the classroom and what should you do if this happens?

Nursemaid’s elbow means that the elbow has slipped out of its normal place at the joint
Avoid tugging, swinging, or jerking on a child’s hand or arm. Do not lift a child by their wrist or hands
ALWAYS lift under upper arms!
Call up front so we can call parents! DO NOT try to straighten arm.

All year round! It is seasonal! Look at curriculum and what relates to portfolio questions! We will be starting fall Aug. 14.

You may write write a response or simply send a picture of the child doing the observation.

In description box write the season, year, and description of what child is doing.

What are the eight diaper changing steps.

Gather what you need for the child
- Gloves, Wipes, disposable liner, diaper cream, tissue to avoid cross contaminating diaper cream
Carry child to diapering area and remove dirty diaper
Remove clothes as needed and remove soiled diaper- roll diaper inward and place out of child’s reach or directly in trash
Clean the child – Wipe front to back and include skin creases
Remove soiled gloves and wipe hands
-Hold soiled diaper and wipes pull off glove pulling it over the diaper and wipes
-dispose items and wipe hands with a disposable wipe
Put a clean diaper on the child
-slide fresh diaper on put on diaper cream if needed then discard tissue
-fasten diaper
-finish clothing child
Wash child’s hands
Sanitize diapering area
Wash your hands and record diaper in procare
