In one class, seven student have a reader listed on their IEP. The teacher assigns an adult reader to each student throughout the year. For KPREP the teacher gives the student a audio CD version of the test because they are short on proctors. 
Not Allowed. The accommodation used must be utilized and practiced throughout the school year.

A student has a calculator on his desk for the mathematics portion of the test. Instead of using the calculator he opts to do the work on paper, but appears to be struggling. The proctor walks over and taps the calculator on the students desk.

The use of calculator is allowed on all sections of the state required assessment including sections labeled Non-Calculator. Must be student initiated.

Frances gets extended time per her IEP and has used it fairly regularly during instruction. On the first day of testing she sits and stares out the window during the 60 minute sessions and then asks for extended time when the proctor says time is up. Frances receives extended time as an accommodation.

Extended time shall be utilized as long as the student is demonstrating on task efforts which allow the student to make constructive progress on completing their assessment response.

A student with paraphrasing on his IEP asks the proctor to paraphrase question # 6 because he does not understand what is being asked. The proctor says she is not able to do that and the student should do his best.

Paraphrasing includes breaking DIRECTIONS into parts or segments, using similar words and phrases in Directions and repeating or rephrasing DIRECTIONS.

Joey has manipulative marked on his IEP and uses several regularly to solve problems. During instruction he routinely goes to pick out the ones he needs. During KPREP the teacher hands him the three that he uses regularly for use on the math test.

Manipulatives can not be placed on the students desk but instead located in a place where the student can access them. All manipulative should be free of writing and used only to trigger the student as he or she organizes thoughts. May have one 3 X 5 inch note card with blank graphic organizer drawn.

Paraphrasing shall not include defining words or concepts, teaching vocabulary, or telling a student what to do first, second, etc. Reading passages and content passages may not be paraphrased as that would impact content validity.
