List a few ways to reduce CAUTI?

•Avoid spigot touching container when emptying urine.

•Always keep drainage bag and tubing lower than the bladder & keep drainage bags off the floor, place on a pad prn.

•Perform & document routine peritoneal/catheter care.

•Clean 4 inches of catheter w/ clean washcloth & soap.

•Teach/ remind self-care patients to perform cath care.

•Carefully clean patients with fecal incontinence & change gloves before and after performing cath care.

•Stabilize all catheters with Statlocks.

•Avoid Foleys by using condom caths, Incontinence pads, and bladder scanners.

•After Foley removal, ask about need to void q 2h.

•If patient is voiding don’t document urinary output under Foley.
